History:
Pʀᴇ-Cᴀɴᴏɴ
Established throughout all Six Books

Conceived during a brief affair between a young Guardian by the name of Janine Hathaway and a Turkish Moroi, whose appearance and manner are as colorful as his history (one Abe Mazur), Rosemarie Hathaway would only spend a very short period of time with her mother before she would return to her post as a Guardian. Rose would be sent away to be raised by a family until she was old enough to enter St. Vladimir's Academy. She never speaks of the family who raised her and it is suggested (rather through exclusion of reference than any statement of fact) that Rose has had no contact with this family after the age of five. She knows nothing of her father (Until later in the series) and her relationship with her mother will be one that consists of the occasional email or card at Christmas. The two would even go years without talking to each other.

At the age of five, Rose, as she prefers to be called, is sent to St Vladimir's Academy, a school where Moroi and Dhampir alike go to train under the heavy protection of Guardians and magical wards. Moroi learn how to control their magical abilities, as well as any number of regular subjects that will enable them to attend small colleges after they finish school and go on to have any career of their choosing. A Dhampirs' education will be vastly different, focusing on combat and the protection of Moroi with little to no weight put on Academics. Students are raised separate from the society of humans, all living within dorms on the campus. Many however, will go home to their families during the holiday seasons; Rose Hathaway, will never be one of them.

On her very first day of School, Rose would meet Vasilisa Sabina Rhea Dragomir, one of the last four Dragomirs (a Royal Line and possible successors to the throne). The two would be paired together and forced to write each others name. It is said by Rose (paraphrased) that forcing five year olds to practice writing two names as complicated as theirs was considered particularly cruel by the precocious little Dhampir. Her response was to pick up her book and hurl it at her teacher, calling them a "Fascist Bastard". She might not have known what that meant, but even at the age of five? Rose knew how to hit a moving target.

Lissa and Rose would become inseparable from this day forward, Rose even welcomed into the Dragomir home by Lissa's Parents; Rhea and 'Prince' Eric Dragomir. The Dragomirs would become the family that Rose never had, taking her with them on holidays and making it known that they hoped for Rose to one day become Lissa's official Guardian.

As a royal among the walls of St. Vladimirs, Lissa would be afforded a measure of popularity from both her name and the legacy of her older brother Andre, and Rose, as Lissa's best friend would be one of the few Dhampir that were invited to the parties she would often be the centre of attention at.

Rose developed a reputation, even in her early teens, as somebody who was always up for a good time, drinking, making out with boys and usually dragging her best friend along for the ride when she wasn't picking fights with other Dhampirs - such as the time she broke Dawn Yarrow's arm, or in one instant... setting up a would-be death match between a Hamster & a Hermit Crab.

Everything would change when the girls were only fourteen years old. Rose, Lissa, along with Lissa's parents and brother would be involved in a fatal car accident. Lissa would initially be the only person to survive said accident and yet in her grief, she reaches out to Rose who lays dead beside her and unknowingly summons a magic that has not been spoken of within the Moroi world for centuries; Spirit. Wielding Spirit for the very first time, Lissa is able to bring Rose back from death, forging a seemingly permanent bond between the two in the process.

With the death of her family, Lissa becomes 'The Last Dragomir', inheriting the royal title of Princess whereas Rose? Rose will become 'Shadowkissed', something the girls will not even hear about, let alone understand for many years. What they do learn however, very quickly at that, is that Rose and Lissa now share a bond, something that is believed to have existed between the very best Guardians and their charges in the stories of the past. This bond enables Rose to hear Lissa's thoughts, to feel her emotions and even on occasion, to be pulled into Lissa's head, enabling her to see through Lissa's eyes (though never take control.)

Rose and Lissa will try their best to return to some semblance of a normal life, the two of them closer than they have ever been before and yet it becomes clear to Rose that Lissa has changed a great deal since the accident that claimed her family. She becomes increasingly unstable, resorting to self harm during times of extreme emotional distress that through the bond, Rose believes seems to come out of nowhere. Lissa becomes paranoid, insisting to Rose that she's being followed, that people are out to get her and over the course of the next year, Rose will become more and more at a loss as to how to help her best friend.

The situation escalates when the two girls decide to cut class one day, Rose planning to spend her afternoon drinking. Sonya Karp was a teacher who seemed to have a knack for finding Rose when she was up to no good. The Dhampir had always found her to be somewhat disturbing, one of the many students who called her Crazy Karp behind her back because of her ability to go off on nonsensical, dreamlike tangents. On one occasion, Karp did something peculiar to Rose, taking away the pain from Rose's scraped hands after a fall that occurred when she tried sneaking out of the dormitories to meet up with a boy. It was admittedly strange to her at the time, but easily dismissed by the student who was just grateful not to get landed with Detention. She wouldn't think of this meeting until Karp would once again happen upon Rose and Lissa as they drank together on the outskirts of campus.

As Karp accompanies Rose and Lissa back to the school, they happen upon a raven that has very recently died. Before Karp or Rose can register what Lissa is doing, the blonde Moroi bends down and places her hands upon the bird, both looking on in horror as the bird, the very, very, dead bird, comes to life, stumbling to its feet and taking off into the sky.

While Rose and Lissa are both shocked, Karp is in a state of panic. She informs Lissa that she must never do it again, tells Rose that she has to make sure Lissa doesn't before fleeing the scene.

It would be only a few days later when Rose is accosted by Miss Karp again. She tells Rose that Lissa is in grave danger, that 'they' are coming for Lissa and that as her Guardian (albeit, to be) Rose has to get Lissa out of the Academy and away from the reach of the Moroi. She 'makes' Rose promise to do so (quotations because, though it's never confirmed, it is believed that Karp may have used compulsion on Rose to make her do it), before she disappears again.

Soon after this meeting, a team of Guardians come to St. Vladimir's and students are led to believe that Ms. Karp was taken away because she was well, crazy. This would be the last time that anyone would see her. (Alive).

A few weeks later, Rose and Lissa attend a party in the dorm room of a royal Moroi; things getting out of control when a Moroi by the name of Wade brings in a feeder (A human girl), drinking from her, force feeding her alcohol and generally crossing the line in every imaginable way. Lissa urges Rose to do something about it and finally, her interference sees Wade leave with the feeder.

This apparently is not enough for Lissa, who slips away from the party and confronts Wade back in his room. She uses compulsion (something forbidden by the Moroi even though most of them are unable to do it with any measure of success) to force Wade to let the feeder go. Something snaps inside of Lissa though, and the compulsion does not end there. She forces Wade to pick up a bat to start destroying all the furniture in his room. When Rose finds them, he is just about to turn the bat on himself. The compulsion drops, Wade comes to and seeing Rose standing before him with the bat she has just taken out of his hands? Rose is accused of being the one to cause the destruction. She does not correct school officials, covering for Lissa.

Two days later, during a mandatory school function that Rose is only permitted to attend under the watchful eyes of several of the schools Guardians, Rose learns that soon after she is taken away, Sonya Karp attacked one of the Doctors at the hospital she was taken to, draining them to the point of death and in turn, becoming a Strigoi.

That same night, Rose finds Lissa and the two of them escape the academy by using compulsion and hiding in the trunk of a car. They would spend the next two years on the run, having a run in with a pack of Psi-hounds, staying on the move and using Lissa's trust fund and her unparalleled talent for compulsion to go undetected in the human world. Until the day that they meet Dimitri Belikov.

Bᴏᴏᴋ Oɴᴇ: Vᴀᴍᴘɪʀᴇ Aᴄᴀᴅᴇᴍʏ

Dispatched by St. Vladimir's Academy, a team of Guardians led by the stoic yet (according to Rose) unbelievably sexy Russian, Dimitri Belikov, find Rose and Lissa living in a house with several College students in Portland, two years after they initially disappeared. Their attempt to flee failing, the girls are loaded straight onto a plane and brought back to the Academy in the mountains of Montana.

As The Last Dragomir, and recognized as the Princess of that line, Lissa is welcomed back with open arms. Rose on the other hand, is facing expulsion when Dimitri steps in and informs the Headmistress that Rose and Lissa share a bond, something which makes them extremely rare within the Moroi world. At the urging of Victor Dashkov, a sickly man who is called 'Uncle' by Lissa, and with the promise from Dimitri that he will give Rose extra training sessions, it is with great reluctance, and a number of strict regulations that Rose is permitted to return as well.

Rose's return to lessons comes with some serious bumps. She quickly learns how far she has fallen behind in her training, getting her ass repeatedly kicked by her fellow Novices and Dimitri adding insult to injury by punishing her before and after school in their gruelling sessions. The social life she once enjoyed the last time she was here became a thing of the past, though nothing it appears will stop Rose from flirting with every hot guy she meets or making herself an enemy in Mia Rinaldi, the porcelain faced girl who had started dating Aaron, Lissa's ex-boyfriend in the absence.

Rose's only way to protect Lissa was to become the best Guardian she could be but she wouldn't be Rose if she didn't have a few false starts. She finds herself starting to fall back into her old ways, the Dhampir getting caught half naked in an unused common area with a Moroi student – by of all people – Dimitri. The Russians less than calm response (he literally ripped Jesse Zeklos off of Rose and threatened him with bodily harm should he catch him anywhere near her again) resulted in two very significant things.

One? Dimitri explained to Rose that because she was a female Novice (rare within the Moroi world), she had to be careful where her reputation was concerned. He urged her to think herself better than some casual hook up with a silly boy when she had her whole life ahead of her. Though the conversation was somewhat tense (Dimitri at one point implying she was behaving like a slut), he softened towards the end and eventually offered to give her even more training sessions to get her up to speed. As for the second thing? Rose realized how very unattracted she was to Jesse (The Moroi who went running with his tail between his legs) and in turn, how very attracted she was to her teacher...

With Rose's own love life hitting an impossible wall, Lissa's seemed to be thriving, though not in ways that Rose approved of. The Dragomir Princess had taken to spending time with Christian Ozera, a Moroi who, despite being Royal himself, was shunned by the Moroi community when his parents became two of only a handful of people in the last fifty years to choose to become Strigoi. He is an outcast, not entirely by choice though he does very little to assuage peoples fears that he will one day 'Go Strigoi' like his parents did. Though Rose attempts to meddle, telling Lissa that she can't be involved with somebody like him, the Blonde Moroi has other ideas as the two get closer by the day.

To add further insult to injury on the dating front for Rose? A rumor sweeps through the halls of St. Vladimir that not only did Rose supposedly have sex with Jesse, but she had sex with Ralf (Jesse's Best friend) as well. At the same time. And, allowed them to feed from her in the process. (Allowing a Moroi to feed on you during sex is considered the ultimate taboo in the Moroi world.) Her desire to lash out over the false rumors is thwarted by the fact that if Rose steps even a foot out of line? She will be expelled from St. Vladimir's Academy.

Enter Queen Tatiana Ivashkov, ruler of the Moroi people. St Vladimir's plays host to a Royal Function, welcoming the Queen for a special dinner at the school where all students are in attendance (Yes, even Rose.) It is the first time that Lissa will see the Queen since her return to the Moroi world and for one, sweet moment it looked as if Lissa would be welcomed back with open arms... Until at a very poignant moment during Tatiana's speech, to the entire student body, she suggests that Lissa had brought great shame to the Dragomir name in light of her recent behavior.

Rose is understandably outraged and in a move that can only be described as asinine at best, at worst, horribly cruel? Rose lashes out the only way that she can, though perhaps at the wrong person (What was she going to do? Punch the Queen?!) Using things she knows from spying on him and Lissa through the bond, Rose confronts Christian and acts as though Lissa has been talking about him behind his back, suggesting that the blonde enjoys mocking him and finds his attention to be completely unwelcome. Score One, Rose on the anti-Ozera front, but the result is that Lissa has been hurt in the process and as if to distract herself, she makes clearing Rose's name and reputation, her next big project.

In theory? This sounded like a good plan. In reality? Lissa's methods border on the extreme. She and Rose had promised each other that they would fly under the radar in order to get through the school year. That's a little hard for either girl to do when Lissa starts using compulsion on a regular basis to convince students that Rose never did any of the things she was accused of. Through the bond, Rose can sense that Lissa is changing again, losing control of herself the same way she did before they left the last time. Neither she, nor Natalie (Victor Dashkov's daughter, Lissa's room mate and cousin by name only) have no idea how to get Lissa to stop and without Christian as a calming influence? Things are getting worse by the day.

If that's not enough to make Rose's head explode? Somebody appears to be out to get Lissa. It began soon after they returned, but was at first dismissed as a cruel prank likely played on her by a certain Moroi who is obsessed with ruining both Lissa & Rose (Remember Rose's not so BFF Mia Rinaldi?). Leaving a dead fox in the bed of your sworn enemy? It seemed like the sort of thing that Mia would pull but the pranks become darker in nature and the animal body count goes up. Each incident drives Lissa closer and closer to the edge until the blonde Moroi falls back into old habits and she starts down the path of self harm again.

When Rose learns what Lissa is up to, she makes her promise to stop the compulsion, to stop using her magic altogether in return for Rose's silence on the matter. Neither girl is particularly happy with the arrangement, bit they manage to come to uneasy agreement for the benefit of all.

The one bright spark in the midst of all this is the fact that the tight reigns that have been kept around Rose are starting to loosen. With a school dance coming up, a planned outing with Lissa's Uncle Victor to go dress shopping, sees Rose permitted to leave the campus. She, along with Natalie, Lissa, Camile Conta (a Royal friend of Lissa's) all go to the mall with Victor, Dimitri and a team of School and Victors personal Guardians. Rose isn't there just to shop however. Dimitri has arranged for this to be yet another training session for her.

Only Rose could have an uneventful shopping trip, then manage to break her ankle when her leg went through a bench as they returned to the Academy. Dimitri carries a screaming Rose to the infirmary, Lissa and the others following close behind. When Rose wakes up, she expects to discover her ankle in a cast, instead she finds that there is no sign of the injury and before she can even sense it through the bond, she's on her feet, sure of what has happened.

Sure enough, Lissa has used Spirit Magic to heal Rose's broken ankle, the power tipping her over the edge of mental control only this time, Lissa cuts herself so badly that she passes out in the bathroom. Rose is forced to seek help, telling Dimitri and the school nurse everything that has been going on with Lissa. Unsurprisingly, fuelled by her instability, Lissa is outraged by Rose's seeming betrayal and whatever popularity the Dhampir had managed to eke out of Lissa's handiwork vanishes when the Moroi publicly snubs her the next day.

Rose had given up the idea of attending the school dance when Mason, a Dhampir friend and fellow Novice who happens to have a crush on Rose, informs her that he has a special surprise waiting for her at the dance. Dragging her along, Rose is treated to an unexpected apology from Jesse and Ralf, the two Moroi who claimed she'd let them feed on her during sex. It turns out that Mason had been doing a little digging on behalf of his long term crush, and discovered that Jesse and Ralf had made up the rumors, in exchange for Mia having sex with the both of them, while she was still dating Lissa's ex boyfriend, Aaron.

With a little help from Rose and her fellow Novice Guardians, the truth of the rumors spreads through the dance like wildfire, Rose getting at least a little vindication, until Mia comes back swinging of course.

Having heard the stories of Lissa being taken to the infirmary with cuts on her arms, Mia confronts the Dragomir Princess, somehow knowing more about the events of that night that she probably should (without getting hold of Lissa's records that is.) With Mia about to inform the whole school that Lissa has been cutting herself, Rose does what Rose does best in situations such as these. She storms over to Mia, pulls her away from Lissa, and punches her in the face, breaking her nose in the process. As Rose is about to be dragged away by the Guardians who descended upon her, she grabs Christian and informs him that she'd lied, that Lissa did care about him, she always had, and urged the Moroi to go to her.

Confined to her room, Rose slips into Lissa's head, happy in a sense to see that Christian did in fact go to her to make sure she was alright. She might be spying on their make-up session but if she hadn't, she would have missed Christian being hit over the head as somebody dressed like a Guardian dragged Lissa away.

Rose runs straight for Dimitri's room, hammering on the door so she can tell him what she's seen only when he answers, something comes over her, a charmed necklace that had been given to her as a gift by Victor Dashkov working it's magic the second she has physical contact with him. Not just any charm, no what would be a book with a girl with a crush on her teacher if she didn't get whammied with a lust charm?!

Things go from 'what are you doing' to hot and heavy very quickly, Rose about to lose her virginity to her teacher when Dimitri removes the necklace and – bam – two naked people who suddenly have a hold of their senses again. A quick conversation and several layers of clothing added later... and Rose and Dimitri are off to gather the troops and rescue the Princess from the hands of her Uncle.

As they set off in their cars, Rose uses the bond to get an idea of Lissa's location, directing the lead car as she learns why this is happening in the first place. Victor not only knows that Lissa can wield Spirit magic but he had long suspected that Rose had died in the accident that killed her family and that Lissa brought her back to life. He had his daughter Natalie plant the dead animals, hoping to get Lissa to use her magic and show that she had control over it but he was unable to get confirmation until they returned from the shopping trip, Victor using his own Earth magic to weaken the bench Rose was walking on and causing her to break her ankle.

Suffering from a disease that has weakened him greatly and will see him taken to an early grave, Victor wants Lissa to be his own personal medibay, using torture to force her into healing him while the others try to reach their location.

The rescue team arrives only not before Victor has been healed. Rose discovers, while she's about to break the rules and not wait in the car that not only has Lissa managed to sneak out of a window before the team can get to her, but that Christian has stowed away in the trunk of the SUV. The two set off in search of Lissa, encountering her as well as a pack of Psi-hounds Victor had sent to retrieve her. Rose (using her fists) and Christian (Using his fire magic) take on the pack, outnumbered five to two.

In the chaos, Christian is severely mauled by the dogs, losing more blood than he'll be able to survive when the team finally reaches them and helps to dispose of the remaining hounds. Weakened from healing Victor, Lissa has to feed from Rose in order to save Christians life. With the bad guys caught and those in peril saved, everyone heads back to the Academy where you expect life would go back to normal... Except not.

Being held in the cells at the Academy, Rose seeks out Victor to ask him about what he had done, wanting to know about the Lust Charm and how much he knew about Lissa and Spirit. He explains to her that she is Shadowkissed, that her life would be forever tied to Lissa and she would always have one foot in the land of dead. When probed about the Lust Charm? He informs Rose that (Despite what Dimitri had been suggesting to her soon after they returned) the charm would not have worked unless they had both felt something for each other.

Before Rose can ask anymore questions, Victors daughter and up until recently, Rose's friend Natalie shows up, looking a little paler than she used to. In order to save her father, Natalie had turned Strigoi and was fast making her way towards a weakened Rose on her way to break Victor out of the cells. Rose tries to hold her off but without a weapon, Natalie tosses her around like a ragdoll, intent on killing her when...

In comes Dimitri like Death in a Cowboy Duster. He makes short work of Natalie, leaves everyone else to clean up the mess and carries a very groggy and shaken Rose to the infirmary for the third time in as many days.

Rose admits to Dimitri that she knows he was lying to her about how he felt and though Dimitri does finally relent and admit he does care about her in that way, he explains to her that no matter what they feel, they cannot be together. He is her teacher. There is a seven year age gap and one day, they would both be Lissa's Guardian. He tells her that if he lets himself love her, he'll jump in front of her and not Lissa.

As the book comes to a close, the truth of Lissa's powers and the fact that Rose is Shadowkissed is revealed to those in charge of the academy. Lissa is being put on a regiment of anti-depressants in order to help her control her wild mood swings and Rose is finally cleared of every grievance the school had against her (Well, most of the big ones anyway).

As for Rose and Dimitri? She's not exactly happy about the way things are but she at least seems to respect that they need to be this way. For now, anyway.

Bᴏᴏᴋ Tᴡᴏ: Fʀᴏsᴛʙɪᴛᴇ

We pick up with Rose and Lissa a month after the events of the first book. Victor Dashkov is being held awaiting trial for his crimes. Lissa is on her meds and finding that despite the fact that they have the side effect of suppressing her magic, she thinks she might me going crazy again and Rose? She's still head over heels in love with Dimitri and pretending that she isn't.

When Dimitri takes Rose to sit a test she missed while she was on the run with Lissa, the two make a grizzly discovery at the home they attend. An entire family of Moroi and their Guardians had been slaughtered by Strigoi and they'd done it with the help of humans.

News travels so fast that by the time Rose returns to the Academy, everybody is talking about what she witnessed first hand. With only a week until Christmas, members of the Moroi community have come up with a plan to allow families to spend the holidays together whilst under the heavy protection of Guardians and wards. Students of St Vladimir's and their families are invited to spend their winter break at a Ski Lodge in Washington.

With families all arriving at the Academy, Guardians have been called in from all over the world to help boost their protection and among them would be none other than Janine Hathaway, much to extreme displeasure of her daughter, Rose. The two of them get off to an immediately bad start, sniping at each other in the middle of a class. Harsh words carry on into the hallway and Rose storms off to a training session with Dimitri whilst in a foul mood.

During her session with Dimitri, she confesses her belief that Janine did everything she did for the marks (The tattoos that a Dhampir received for making Strigoi kills). Rather than argue with her, Dimitri takes Rose to meet an old friend of his; Tasha Ozera, the Aunt of Lissa's now boyfriend; Christian. Rose sees that Tasha has been horribly disfigured from a Strigoi attack, the Strigoi in question being Christian's parents. Rose understands in that moment that tattoos are not the only marks left by Strigoi and though she still harbors a great deal of resentment towards her mother, that eases a little in light of this new expanse of her world view.

The modicum of understanding that Rose managed to find for her mother vanishes the second Janine shows up in place of Dimitri for a training session. The two get into a massive argument in the middle of sparring that results in Rose suggesting that she was the result of a one night stand with a man her mother probably couldn't even remember, and Janine giving Rose a black eye...

When Rose sees her best friend, Lissa is troubled by the fact that she is unable to heal Rose's black eye. Through the bond Rose can feel the dark, stickiness that she has come to associate with Lissa starting to lose herself and unknowingly manages to absorb some of that darkness away from Lissa.

While Lissa was feeling better, Rose was now feeling a thousand times worse, plagued by the side effects of Spirit, both the darkness of the magic going through the bond and into her and the fact that Lissa and Christian had decided to take their relationship to a physical level, giving her an unwanted front row seat, Rose is now becoming the unstable one. For Rose, that instability presents itself in levels of anger that she has trouble controlling, something she shows in full force at her next training session with Dimitri.

When Dimitri tries to play peacekeeper in regards to her mother, Rose has a meltdown, throwing vile accusations at Dimitri, telling him he doesn't care about her before flip-flopping and accusing him of being just like her. She pushes him harder with every word that comes out of her mouth and then finally kisses him (a kiss which he returns) before throwing in his face that he had no business teaching her control when he clearly had none himself. Dimitri storms off and to make matters worse, cancels all their training sessions until after the Ski Trip.

Christmas arrives, the day before everyone is expected to leave for the Ski lodge and a small group of Rose's friends; Tasha, Dimitri (Invited by Tasha), Mason, Lissa and Christian have brunch together. Things between Rose and Dimitri have yet to thaw, leaving Rose to remain quiet (for once in her life) until her mother shows up, making the whole thing that much worse for Rose.

After lunch, Janine asks to talk to Rose and gives her a necklace, explaining to her that it had been given to her when she was her age. For another moment it looks as if Rose might even be warming to her mother again... Until Janine blurts out that Tasha has asked Dimitri to not only become her Guardian, but perhaps the father of her children as well. As one might expect, the news is as shocking as it is devastating to Rose and the brief moment of mother-daughter bonding ends on a bitter-sweet note.

Setting off for the resort, Rose is determined not only to continue her coldness with Dimitri, but to make herself fall out of love with him as well (Because apparently that's easy). What better way to do that? Than to try dating somebody else? No, probably not the greatest of decisions but Mason had been crushing on Rose forever and Lissa had been trying to push Rose into giving him a shot (Unaware of Rose's feelings towards Dimitri as she is) so Rose in her ultimate wisdom decides that if Dimitri can start making plans to have babies with Christian's Aunt, then she can move on too...

The rules of courtship are apparently a little different when you're a Guardian in training. While Lissa and Christian go on a nice, safe ski together, Rose and Mason challenge each other to tackle the most impossible course on the mountain. With a wing, a prayer, and a whole lot of luck, Rose somehow manages to make it to the end of the course. Mason? Not so much. While he is off getting a cast put on his now broken ankle, Rose, still sporting her black eye sets about packing up their gear.

Enter; Adrian Ivashkov. Sure he's ridiculously good looking and an incorrigible flirt but he smokes and he makes comments about Rose's black eye and in the space of five minutes manages to get her into trouble by implying that he and Rose are 'good friends' to one, Mia Rinaldi. As much as she wants to hate him, and probably would if he were anyone else, she can't. For all the things he's said and done to piss her off? There is still something about Adrian that has her attention.

Personality: Few people know the true Rose Hathaway. They see her as reckless and mouthy. Somebody who cares little for anyone or anything and even less for the rules and opinions of authority figures. Though some, if not all of this is true, it's not an accurate reflection of the real Rose. To know her true person, you only have to look at her relationship with her best friend Vasilisa Dragomir. For years now, Rose has been taking care of the unstable Moroi. Taking the blame for her actions whenever she has flown off the handle and even choosing to abandon a life she greatly enjoyed at the Academy, to go on the run with Lissa to try and protect her from some unseen evil that only Lissa seemed to be aware of.

She proved in her time on the run that she is willing to sacrifice a great deal in order to protect the people she loves. She allowed Lissa to feed on her, despite the negative connotations associated with it (Dhampirs who let Moroi feed on them get labelled Blood-Whores), how weak she would be afterwards, and the risk of becoming addicted to Moroi bites (Like being injected with heroin every time you are bitten.) She was forever trying to put Lissa's needs and safety ahead of her own. Though all Dhampirs training to be Guardian's are taught that they (the Moroi) come first, Rose's commitment to Lissa has proven to go beyond that.

She's determined (or stubborn if you will) when she needs to be, especially when she feels she has to prove herself. The easiest way to get Rose to do something is tell her that she can't. That's exactly what happened when she returned to the Academy, catching up on two years worth of missed training in just a few short months. Consequently however, this can lead Rose to do things that are either unwise or just plain foolish (IE: going after several friends because she was challenged, led not only to her capture, but the eventual death of her one-time boyfriend and good friend, Mason, soon after her chosen canon point).

There are some things about Rose on the other hand, that are exactly as they appear. She speaks her mind, whether it's appropriate or not, as shown in her many conversations with Headmistress Kirova, even when she was under threat of expulsion. She won't take crap from anyone and the only hope you ever have of getting her to not go down the road of don't get mad, get even, is if doing so puts the people she loves at risk, such as when Mia was going after Lissa. She prefers to solve her problems with her fists rather than words, again, Mia's broken nose case in point. She somehow manages to be both guarded, and yet wear her heart on her sleeve (Especially when it comes to Dimitri), a side effect for the most part from being Shadowkissed (as you will read about below). Despite all of her faults (and she knows there are many), she wants to be the very best that she can be, if not for herself, then for Lissa. She wants to be worthy of the title of Guardian and works every day to make that happen.

If her life wasn't complicated enough already, Rose is Shadowkissed. Though this may not impact her the exact same way it did back home, the event that caused this greatly changed Rose's life and with or without the bond, she is still greatly defined by this. To be Shadowkissed is to have died and be brought back to life by a Moroi who has the rare magical gift of Spirit, that allows the user to heal and in rare circumstances, resurrect a person that has passed on. In bringing Rose back, Lissa's powers as a Spirit user blossomed and she forged a seemingly permanent bond between the two. Rose has been able to not only read Lissa's mind, but enter it, see through Lissa's eyes. The bond was only one way, which meant that though Lissa could send thoughts through to Rose, Rose was unable to communicate with her (without the help of another Spirit user.)

There was however, a severe downside to being shadow-kissed. Spirit users are by nature, very unstable, and the more they use their magic, the worse it gets. As the person bonded to Lissa, Rose absorbs some of the darkness that would overcome her. Though it made Lissa better, Rose was prone to moods, sudden outbursts and even uncontrollable fits of rage, such as the altercation between Rose and the Moroi who were using their magic to attack each other as seen in Book 4. Were it not for Dimitri's intervention at that time, Jesse would likely have been killed. It is later revealed in canon that the best way to deal with that anger is to wear objects charmed with Spirit, or to receive small healings from Lissa but as it stands at her canon point, there is still so much about Spirit that Rose (and anyone at a similar canon point) does not know.

With the bond seemingly no longer in tact, Rose would feel as though a piece of herself is missing. For the last four years she has had to think for two people and try and balance the wants and needs of both. She has almost forgotten what it means to make choices based solely on her own needs and desires, and though the prospect of being on own would have been frightening in her own world, it will actually give Rose the opportunity to grow and mature in ways that were never possible before.

Like all Dhampirs who train to be Guardians, Rose seems much older than her age may suggest. Imagine being taken from your home from a very young age and raised to fight an enemy who are stronger and faster and show no mercy. With a life expectancy of mid -twenties (younger if you aren't as gifted as others), there isn't a lot of time to be young and foolish. In her earlier years Rose may have been more frivolous than her peers (drinking, not paying attention in class, almost never, ever picking up a book), but since her return to the Academy, she has been exposed to the reality of their world, forced to understand that there is a difference between what she is taught in class and what it is like to come face to face with a Strigoi, (as we see when she is confronted by Natalie at the end of book one.)

Still, she is only seventeen years old. She has moments of emotional immaturity. She hasn't learned that some fights aren't worth having. She rails against the mother she believes abandoned her for her own career as a Guardian, which is perhaps why she has little to no regard for authority figures. She is still naive enough to believe that society's opinions shouldn't matter if you feel it is right (her desire to be with Dimitri a case in point). She seems to believe that she is immune to all rules of society, going on to treat the Queen (In Book 3) with the same indifference that she may treat a fellow Guardian in training if she feels that they are wrong. She can be unfairly judgmental, though finds a way to justify it in her mind, (Her mistrust of Christian Ozera and her resultant meddling in his relationship with Lissa). She is arrogant - sometimes deservedly so but sometimes too much for her own good. She is both fearless, yet utterly frightened at the same time but at the core of it, she is a good person. Sometimes that just gets lost along the way.

Though her most significant relationship may be with her best friend Lissa, there is one person who has come into her life that has arguably had the greatest impact on her to date, and that is Dimitri Belikov. Seven years her senior, it began as a relationship between a student and teacher, but has clearly become something so much more but due to a variety of reasons, (age, school, the fact that both will become Lissa's Guardians), despite a magically aided hook-up at the end of Book 1, Dimitri refuses to allow things to go further.

Personal feelings aside, in the months that Dimitri has taken Rose under his wing, he has taught Rose how to value herself, not only as a potential Guardian, but as a woman, by letting her see that she was worth more than casual hook-ups with Moroi students (and threatening to beat said students up if he caught them at it). He has tried to teach her when to back down and when to fight and that it's okay for her to ask for help when she needs it, that she can't be expected to shoulder the responsibility of protecting Lissa on her own.

The relationship has become very strained of late, Rose's jealousy getting the better of her when she learns that Tasha Ozera, Christian's Aunt, wishes Dimitri to become both her Guardian, and the future father of her Children. It's a life that Rose will never be able to have with Dimitri; Two Dhampirs unable to have children together and she knows that given what he wants from life, this is something he is likely to choose. She is hurt, angry and confused; Trying to move on by dating other boys her own age but Dimitri has, and will likely always have her heart, even if he's made it perfectly clear that he doesn't feel that way about her.

As has been made clear throughout the series, Lissa is the one person that Rose will put before anything (and anyone) else in her life, even if that means her own becomes more difficult as a result. The two could not be more opposite if they tried, Lissa 'The Cautious One' to Rose's reckless label and yet despite a bad reputation that has been well earned over the years, Rose has always acted with Lissa's best interests at heart.

The bond they share can be seen as both a blessing and a curse. While on one hand, it has allowed Rose to better protect Lissa (Sometimes from herself), and has enabled them to become closer than they ever were before, it isn't easy for either girl to deal with the lack of privacy that comes with it. Lissa hates Rose can not only hear but see everything she does and though Rose doesn't complain about it outwardly the same way her best friend does, she too struggles with the fact that she cannot get a moment alone with her thoughts.

They are more than just best friends, they have become like sisters and all siblings will have their ups and downs. They won't agree on everything and they will do things to hurt the other when they are feeling jealous or upset. Lissa will rail against the fact that she cannot keep secrets from Rose when she wants to and Rose will in turn keep secrets about things (such as her feelings for Dimitri) which will result in her emotional isolation, particularly after Lissa has started dating Christian.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

N.B. It's worth noting that despite having a number of Shadowkissed abilities, Rose has yet to understand how they work. She is forced to figure them out for herself in Canon, and would be expected to go through a similar process in a game environment at her given Canon Point. Many of these will not manifest until Rose has made her first kills.

Though Rose is Shadowkissed, after arriving she would no longer have the same connection she once had with Lissa. The bond is effectively severed unless Lissa were to arrive. While they remain in two different places, Rose will probably no longer take Spirit's ill effects from her?

N.B. This is one of those things that can go either way - I default to 'she won't' but it's theoretically possible she's still getting the side effects, just without the bond itself - I leave that up to you whether the instability can be absorbed by her still.

What is arguably the most frightening side effect from being shadow-kissed, is that Rose can communicate and worse still, be attacked by the dead. Spirits that have not moved on will seek her out and if she weakens and can no longer keep her mind closed they will break through into her reality. They appear invisible to the human (or Moroi/Dhampir) eye, but will turn on any they do not believe should be walking in the mortal realm. Though this will cause Rose excruciating pain, she has found it useful when facing a Strigoi. Though she was brought back to life, they are the living dead and the spirits will focus their wrath on them over a shadow-kissed. They do however need a shadow-kissed to be channeled into the physical realm and because of what it does to do, the chances that she will use it are minimal at best.

Rose can also sense the undead, a fluttering in her stomach hitting her as any creature that falls into this category comes close to her. (Yet another side effect of being shadow-kissed.) N.B. For this I use a permissions post and let the person playing the undead creature decide if she can sense them or not if they aren't from her canon.

Rose has trained to be a Guardian from the time she was a child and despite several years away from the Acadmey, she is still an adept fighter, in both armed and unarmed combat. Though she may be smaller than many of her opponents, she has trained to use her size to her advantage. Her weapon of choice is a Silver Stake that has been charmed with the four key elements of Moroi Magic, (Earth, Fire, Wind & Water.)

Finally, as a Dhampir (a half human, half Vampire), Rose has increased strength, agility and senses. She's not exactly what you call a super hero, but she is superhuman. She heals a little faster than a regular person but doesn't drink blood or have any sensitivity to light.

It should also be noted that as a Dhampir, Rose is slightly more resistant to compulsion than the average human. A supernatural creature would be able to smell the difference on her, particularly her blood. It is also said that Dhampir or Moroi blood makes a Vampire (Strigoi) stronger and harder to kill, which is why The Strigoi will choose to hunt them rather than live on a ready supply of human blood.

Rose's Turkish and Scottish heritage gives her skin the color of the inside of an almond. Paired with long brown hair and brown eyes, Rose describes herself as having semi-exotic desert-princess features. Standing at 5ft7, she has an athletic build brought on by years of training and is known for her curves, despite her athleticism. Her hands show the signs of heavy use, cracked and calloused from training and her ongoing failure to wrap them or use a balm to sooth any damage done to them.

In terms of her style? Rose has taken to wearing darker colors, much like the Guardian black, but is still just as comfortable throwing on a dress and a pair of heels if the situation calls for it. She's not the type to constantly fuss about her look, more concerned with looking presentable than perfect.

Anyone with the ability to see Auras would note that Rose's is always tinged with black, like dark shadows that surround the color it gives off. These shadows darken when her mood does.

(Things one might observe about Rose)

It's been hammered into her through training to always be aware of exits and be within reach of one if an urgent escape is required so it's likely that anyone talking to her might notice she takes check of them when she enters a room and during conversation her eyes will casually sweep the surrounding area. It's said in canon that Rose is one of those people who turns heads when she walks into a room, not because of her looks (though that may be a factor) but because she has an air of confidence around her.

Rose stared at the ceiling of her bedroom, tears prickling at the back of her eyes, desperate to surface while Rose was equally desperate to keep them at bay. She wouldn't cry, not over this, she wouldn't waste another moment of her life pining over somebody who kept making it clear how much he didn't want her. Well, to be fair? If he didn't want her, he probably shouldn't keep kissing her back whenever she ninja-kissed him.

She didn't want to be upset about the news her Mother had just unceremoniously dumped in her lap. She wanted to be angry. Angry would allow her to hate Dimitri and resent Tasha for trying to take him away from her. Anger meant that maybe instead of feeling like somebody had just reached inside her chest and wrapped their hand around her heart, she might be ready to punch him next time they had a training session!

Would they even have those now? Was that why he'd cancelled the rest of them before Christmas? Not because she'd kissed him, not because she'd called him on his underwhelming self control but because he and Tasha were off making plans for all the little Dimkas they were planning on having!

There it was, the anger, a scowl contorting Rose's features as she shifted on her bed, the springs groaning in protest at the almost violent way she rolled over.

It lasted all of eight seconds before it whooshed out of her and instead of the rage that she wanted to cling to, all she felt was the sadness left in its wake.

Any other time when she felt this upset, Rose would have gone to see Lissa. She would have curled up next to her best friend, rested her head in her lap and poured it all out until her heart felt just a little less broken. It was Christmas though and Lissa was off somewhere making Christian's day a merry one and besides. She couldn't exactly pour her heart out about a boy who was actually a man and one that she wasn't ever supposed to think of that way.

[The problem with the Moroi world that Rose has been raised in? Magically speaking, they knew what they were doing but when it came to technology? Let's just say that Rose hadn't even managed to master email, let alone how to work a smart phone before she wound up here. She'd checked the former approximately twice in the last two years?

That might explain why everyone is currently being treated to a young brunette who is squinting at her screen, her face a comedic series of masks as it shifts from almost serious, to confusion then surprised.

To make it all the more ridiculous, the right side of her face appears to be sporting a black eye, a few days old by now so that the black is turning to a reddish, purple color.]

Ohhh, that's what that does. [Somebody just realized she was broadcasting.

With her dry tone and general sarcasm it's hard to imagine that it wasn't all that long ago that she was recovering in the medbay.]

So I'm... Rose? [She offers a tight smile that seems more like a grimace.] You all know this is like, illegal, right? [Eyes narrowing.] I mean I know there's rules - [She does mean Laws, yes.] About taking people across state lines so... I'm kinda thinking that this... would come under that, and then some.

[The calm wasn't at all natural but then, neither was this. Rose was seriously beginning to think she'd taken a header off a ski slope and this was like, Coma-land.]

Anyway, seeing as I already have your attention. [She pauses a moment, considering not asking the question that she really wants the answer to. Mostly because despite being pretty sure all this is just some concussion induced crazy? She's still mindful of sounding like an idiot.

Not that it would show given all she'd said so far.]

Space donuts. [Two eyebrows shooting up.] Is that a thing, here?
